Cameron LLP Advises Government of Kiribati in Successful Telecommunications Privatization
On May 31, 2015, the Government of the Republic of Kiribati announced the completion of its successful sale of substantially all the assets in its national telecommunications company, Telcommunications Services Kiribati Ltd. (“TSKL”) to the Vodafone Fiji subsidiary of Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Ltd. (“ATH”). ATH is a public company listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange and is Fiji’s principal telecommunications holding company. The Kiribati business henceforth will operate as Vodafone Kiribati. This divestiture constitutes a major component of the Government’s plans for telecommunications/ICT enterprise reform and privatization of nonstrategic public enterprises. The project was undertaken in conjunction with the World Bank Telecommunications Sector Project.
