PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Mr. Wilmer's Washington-based practice centers on representation of multinational and small corporate clients in litigation, regulatory and legislative matters involving environmental law, occupational safety and health, consumer product safety, toxic torts and international trade. His litigation practice has included litigation on behalf of chemical, metalworking, apparel and other companies and trade associations in cases arising in numerous states, including California, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington, DC. His environmental and workplace safety practice extends beyond the United States to corporate activities in Europe, Asia and South America. He has spent considerable time focusing on contemporary business, military and political developments in China. Mr. Wilmer's relationships with some of his clients extend for more than 25 years.

Mr. Wilmer's practice has involved, for example, federal appellate litigation regarding workplace standards for lead and formaldehyde; CPSC product recalls; Stringfellow and numerous other multi-party Superfund sites and related toxic tort litigation; EPA permits; OSHA citations; and EPA toxic substance proceedings regarding dioxins, PFOA and other substances.

Mr. Wilmer received his B.A. degree in economics, cum laude, from Princeton University in 1970. He received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served on Law and Policy in International Business, in 1975. He served as law clerk to the Hon. Pierce Lively, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, in 1975-1976. Mr. Wilmer's governmental experience includes environmental work at the Center for Naval Analyses and the Pentagon, and at the Council on Environmental Quality. Mr. Wilmer is a Trustee of Christ Church, Alexandria, where he is a delegate to Diocesan Council, Chairman of the Bread for the World Committee, and is on the Board of the Christ Church Foundation. He also created and served as Chairman of the Endowment for the Alexandria Crew Boosters, and he served on the Princeton University National Annual Giving Committee and on the School Superintendent Advisory Committee for Alexandria, Virginia.
